Baptist South is a 492-bed,  highly regarded acute care regional referral center, providing care for a very large portion of Central Alabama.   It is designated a Level II trauma center, but based on acuity and volume, functions much like a Level I trauma center.   Unlike many level 1 trauma centers, the Emergency physicians run the trauma assessments and procedures with Trauma surgery backup.   If you want to learn how to manage a trauma this is the place for you.   It is also the region's only Comprehensive Stroke Center, offering both thrombolysis and interventional thrombectomy.   And, it is the area's largest Cardiac Center with full access to cardiac cath lab and cardiothoracic surgery.    Baptist South also provides behavioral health services through Crossbridge Behavioral Health Center.

Although not officially designated as such, Baptist East has become one of the pre-eminent Women's and Children's facilities in the state, handling all Baptist System Pediatric admissions and hosting an extremely active Obstetrics Department delivering approximately 3,800 babies a year, the third most of any hospital in the state.   Baptist East also provides Central Alabama's only 24 Obstetrics-only Emergency Department, staffed by 24 hour OB/GYN physician coverage.   With its 176 bed acute care capacity, the hospital offers the feel of a true community hospital with access to many in house specialties and easy access to tertiary care facility 15 minutes away if needed.   Winner of 2023 Women’s Choice Awards for Best Hospitals Obstetrics, Women’s Services, Outpatient Experience, and Minimally Invasive Surgeries.
